Over the past 10 years, Canberra has grown to become Australia’s mountain biking capital, and on any given weekend in Canberra, it’s not unusual to find riders who have made a day trip from Sydney or even further afield.
Built around an expansive urban nature park, and surrounded by native and plantation forests, Canberra offers a huge range of options for cyclists of all abilities.
Stromlo Forest Park
Destroyed by catastrophic bushfires in 2003, Stromlo has been rebuilt as a world-class mountain bike facility, with over 44 kilometres of IMBA approved, cross-country single track, downhill course and a dedicated 4X track. Located less than ten minutes from Canberra’s CBD, Stromlo Forest Park is the base for the Australian National MTB Championships in January, the Scott 24 Hour Race in October, and in September 2009, will host the 2009 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships.
